This meeting is open to all current Monroe County 4th graders, but if you are unable to attend, please email Ms. Web at jennifer.web@mcschools.org for all the information.

Special thanks to community business partner, Tabernacle Baptist Church, for the yummy breakfast and inspiring message from Landon Crenshaw to get 2025 off to a great start! In this new year, may we be grateful for the small things and see all things as gifts and as our purpose!

So close, we're almost there! C'mon, Christmas!
Thursday, December 19 - Where Are You Christmas? - Wear your most festive Christmas
shirt, sweatshirt, or sweater.
Let's go out in style on the last day of the year!

Students enrolled in the Monroe County School System were entered into a Christmas drawing on December 16, and today, two lucky students from each school received Christmas gifts from Malik Herring and Desmond Williams. As they are both busy at this time in the NFL season, their sweet moms delivered the blessings on their behalf to TGS students, Gracie Harris and Jaxon Slaton, both of whom were overwhelmed by the surprise and the abundance of gifts. We cannot thank these two hometown heroes enough for the generous way they pour back into our community and our students.

Join us in congratulating our TGS Instructional Coach, Mrs. Misti Tonn who just yesterday was awarded a generous $1500 grant from the Georgia Teachers Initiative Teacher Grants for Innovation the purpose of which is “to help Georgia public school teachers bring their creative ideas to life!”
Mrs. Tonn plans to use the grant money to fund her original “Phonics Power Packs” which she designed and will produce for our elementary school students. These will align with our district approach to teaching reading, “The Science of Reading” which studies how people learn to read. While SoR includes various aspects of reading, Mrs. Tonn’s “Phonics Power Packs” will concentrate on hands-on learning, phonemic awareness, and phonics fluency, as well as vocabulary and comprehension.
In conjunction with the Georgia Foundation for Public Education and College Football Playoff Foundation, the GaDOE is “committed to changing outlooks and improving outcomes for students in communities across the state” and believes that Mrs. Tonn’s grant-funded activities will certainly advance that mission.
Thanks, Mrs. Tonn, for your innovative ideas and for representing TGS so well!

Wednesday, December 11 - Candy Cane Lane - Wear traditional candy cane colors- red and white or stripes.

At our December faculty meeting, we welcomed some important guests for an extra special presentation to honor the founding principal of TG Scott, Dr. Richard Bazemore. As the first to view the “Papa Bear” portrait, Dr. Bazemore’s family and TGS staff reflected on the impact he made on our school and community through words spoken by Mr. Taylor, Mrs. Graham, Mrs. Tonn, and his brother, Bill Bazemore. All recollected how very much he loved TGS and the Mary Persons Bulldogs. He believed in and lived for education, and he invested in ways that many never even knew. Dr. B made TGS a home for his staff and students and embodied the principles he espoused as a leader. The success TGS has enjoyed for twenty years began through his foundation and will continue through his legacy. As Mrs. Graham summed it up, “To call Dr. Bazemore special feels like an understatement. He was a rare and extraordinary gift. The lessons he shared, the love he gave, and the faith he had in me will forever be a guiding light in my life.”
Special thanks to Alix Fuerst for capturing his spirit and sparkle through her artistic rendering of Dr. Bazemore. It seems particularly apt that his bright eyes and smiling face will be among the first to greet people as they enter TGS.

Tuesday, December 10 - Here Comes Santa Claus - Wear your Santa hat and/or cozy Christmas socks or stockings.
How many Santa Clauses can we have at TGS?
