Dr. MeQuanta McCord Named HES Principal

Press Release March 10, 2021 Dr. MeQuanta McCord Named Principal of Hubbard Elementary School The Monroe County Board of Education on Tuesday night named Dr. MeQuanta McCord as the new principal of Samuel E. Hubbard Elementary School. The appointment will become effective with the new school year. Dr. McCord succeeds Mr. Jay Johnston who will retire at the end of the current school year. He had been in the principal’s position since 2015, and Dr. McCord has served as assistant principal of the school during that time. In making the recommendation to the board, Superintendent Dr. Mike Hickman said “We are extremely excited with the expertise, passion, and experience that Dr. McCord will bring to the staff and students at Hubbard Elementary.” Dr. McCord is a 1993 graduate of Mary Persons High School and began her career in education immediately working as a paraprofessional and career coordinator in the high school’s vocational department. In 1998, she became a case manager with the Department of Family and Children’s Services in Spalding County. She returned to teaching in the Griffin-Spalding County School District in 2000, and she was named her school’s Teacher of the Year for the 2004-05 school year. In 2008, Dr. McCord rejoined Monroe County Schools to become a graduation coach, focusing on ensuring students were on track to complete their high school requirements and identifying students who were at risk of dropping out of school. Between 2010 and 2012, she was the site coordinator for the 21st Century Community Learning Center Program at William Hubbard Middle School. She became an instructional coach in 2010 before being named assistant principal of Hubbard Elementary School in 2012. Dr. McCord holds an Associate’s Degree in Business from Gordon College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Mercer University, a Master’s of Education in Middle Grades Education from Georgia Southwestern State University, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. During her education career, Dr. McCord has participated in Griffin-Spalding Schools’ Aspiring Leadership Academy, as a Monroe County administrator at the Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement, and with Leadership Monroe through the Forsyth-Monroe County Chamber of Commerce. She has held numerous leadership positions in both Griffin-Spalding Schools and Monroe County Schools, and has been involved with review teams for school accreditation in both districts. Dr. McCord grew up in Culloden and attended Monroe County Schools. She and her husband, Rodney, have two sons – Jordan, a tenth grader at Mary Persons, and Jalen, a seventh grader at Monroe County Middle. Her mother, Dr. Margie Bryant, is a retired Monroe County educator, and her father, Melvin Jones, is a veteran Monroe County school bus driver. “I am delighted to be selected as principal of Samuel E. Hubbard Elementary School. I am excited about the future of Hubbard and the wonderful things I will get to experience with our amazing staff and students as principal,” said Dr. McCord.
